About the Gujarati Society of British Columbia

Welcome to the official site of Gujarati Society of British Columbia (GSBC) — a cultural, charitable, and educational non-profit organization based in British Columbia. This society is one of the largest cultural organizations in the Lower Mainland, with thousands of Gujarati-speaking members and supporters. The framework of the society was set in 1967 and it has since grown to be one of the most active Indian organizations in Canada, holding many exciting cultural and recreational events that bring uncountable Gujaratis together from all over.

The purpose of the GSBC is to:

  • maintain, enhance, understand, and appreciate Gujarati culture and language
  • preserve Gujarati heritage by celebrating various Gujarati holidays
  • encourage friendship amongst members with entertainment and sporting events
  • educate youths about Gujarati customs

To promote these goals, the society holds many events, including Diwali, Navratri, festival celebrations, picnics, bhajans and others throughout the years. We hope to keep you regularly informed with all of the necessary information to enable you to play an active role in the community. Check out what events are upcoming or find out information about GSBC activities and contacts. We aim to provide something of interest to all age groups. Help it to become successful by visiting regularly and providing input and feedback.

Preserve Gujarati cultural and linguistic heritage through diversity and a sense of belonging for the upcoming and future generations of the membership.

Preserve and promote Gujarati heritage by providing exposure and opportunity to the membership.

A message from the President:

Dear Members,

Namaskar and warm welcome to all new and renewing members.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to our new Executive Committee Board for the years of 2009 and 2010. The adventure of our Society is set for the exciting future ride to 2010! It is in the hands of leaders and volunteers, who served you in the past with enthusiasm and we will continue to do so for the many years ahead. As well, we have some new members on board who agreed to support us with their innovative ideas and to perform valuable service. We look forward in providing you with these events soon. If you are interested and have the desire to plan events for youths we currently have a position available as a youth committee board member to add to our existing board, please contact us and we will provide our best support to make it your pleasant experience.

Our primary challenge is to bring back the momentum and to get our members willingly involved in GSBC activities. Please help us to serve you by attending all the special events designed only for you and your families. This committee promises you that we will listen to you and will make sure that we provide top quality entertainment through our vibrant cultural events. How about starting this year with a walkathon and a baseball tournament? Oh and a New Years Eve dinner and dance to ring in 2010?

I would like to thank all of last term’s Board of Directors for their dedication and hard work throughout the year. I would also like to thank Board of Trustees for conducting the election process. I am very confident that the members of the GSBC Society will support the Board of Directors and the Trustees for the coming years.

Please don’t forget, we are there only because of your continued support. We will see you soon.

Yours Truly,

Rajan Raniga
